[Since today happens to be a pleasant, breezy day, Roku has gone out to take advantage of this and practice some airbending. He's hanging out at the barracks, AWAY from the house so he doesn't end up doing something to the house like last time. He's been going through all the motions and actually making some progress, able to make more powerful gust with more control. Though, maybe the wind might be helping him along but it's not a bad thing. It's like an invisible teacher.]

If only I had my glider...

[She blinks, pain flickering over her face for that moment, and then she smiles.] I guess so! Plenty of wind to work with, anyway. How's it going?

It's gotten better! It doesn't putter out when I try at least, and I can control how much air I'm outputing.

That's good! Have you been practicing long?

For a while, yea. Probably a good time to take a break. What brings you out here?

[Shrug.] Just heading back to the house before starting dinner. Nothing too exciting.

[She sits down beside him and starts running her hands through the grass.]

Zuko did a good job with that turkey duck dinner a few nights ago.

[She smiles at that, wide and happy, and shakes her head.] Yes, he did! At least, everyone seemed to like it.

[She'd ended up with more vegetables and rice for the sake of the guests.] I was shocked.

Well I certainly did! I might have helped a little, but it was all him.

[And she shrugs again.] Well, yeah. He's a prince - or he was. I didn't know he knew anything like that.

Oh, that's right. Cooking isn't something the royal family is required to learn.

Well then, I call that his first successful dinner party.

Yeah. It went really well. It was nice to see everyone having a good time.

But I can't be expecting him to take over cooking every day.

...It's nice to see him not angry and enjoying himself. At least, from what I saw.

I want...to know more about him, but I don't want to see him get worked up like before if I tried to talk about it.

[Katara pulls her legs up to her chest and wraps her arms around them.] He's changed a lot from when we first met him. But there's still a lot that's hard to talk about - it would be hard for anyone to talk about. [Wryly:] And Zuko doesn't exactly explain things well.

[She cuts him a sidelong glance.] It will be good practice for him, though. Especially if you can just listen without getting too upset. Because you have to understand, Roku... this hasn't happened for you yet. But for us... it's all we've ever known, and it's... been the most important thing we've had to deal with.

You've never known a world with war. We've never known one without it. And especially for Zuko... he's the Fire Lord now. He's got to be feeling so responsible for trying to fix things... [She just trails off, shaking her head.]

Maybe I'm just approaching it all wrong. It's strange, how we're all from the same world and yet we see it so differently.

Two hundred years will do that.

[She pauses and lays a hand on his shoulder.] Just give it time. We've got it, after all. And Zuko's not stupid - he's just really pigheaded. But give it time. You're not a bad guy, Roku. He'll see that.

Thanks, Katara. I think I'll stay here and train a little more before heading back. You want any help making dinner tonight?

[A little bit of mock shock:] You can cook?

Of course I can! I helped Zuko.

[Grin.] Really? I should thank you for that, then.

[And then she shakes her head.] You can help if you want. [Might as well take advantage of it while she can.] But it's not necessary. I'm used to it. And hey, the sooner you master airbending, the sooner we can go on to waterbending, right?

Oh, but I can only train for so long before my stomach tells me to go eat something.

That day will be soon, and I'm looking forward to it.

Well... think fast! [And she's sending a small ball of water from her waterskin straight at your head.]

[She laughs - and then the gust hit and she goes with it, rolling backwards and landing in a crouch. She grins.]

[She grins.] Heh - are you sure? I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself. Being such an old man, and all.
